The Order of Hermes: A society of mortal wizards, founded in 767 AD, which spread throughout Europe over the following centuries. Extant until the late 13th century, when the last wizards of the Order were subsumed by Clan Tremere. The Order of Hermes consisted of thirteen Houses, many of which have passed down their legacies within Clan Tremere:

• House Bjornaer: Taciturn shapeshifters.
• House Bonisagus: Researchers and theorists.
• House Criamon: Illusionists and mystics.
• House Diedne: Druidic cultists. Purged from the Order in the 11th century.
• House Ex Miscellanea: Eclectic hedge magicians.
• House Flambeau: Pyromancers and warriors.
• House Guernicus: Investigators and legalists. Also known as Quaesitors.
• House Jerbiton: Intermediaries with the mundane world.
• House Mercere: Couriers and messengers.
• House Merinita: Students of faerie magic.
• House Tremere: The cornerstone of the Order, and the root of our Clan.
• House Tytalus: Masters of conflict.
• House Verditius: Craftsmen and enchanters.

Coeris: Located in the Carpathian Mountains, this fortified Chantry is the ancestral home of Clan Tremere. Our founders studied mortal magics there, and conducted the rituals which granted them vampiric immortality within the depths of its hidden vaults.

Durenmar: An ancient Chantry located within the Black Forest of Germany. Once home to House Bonisagus of the Order of Hermes, Durenmar remains the premier Chantry for magical study and research, and maintains the most comprehensive thaumaturgical library outside of Vienna.

Val-Negra: Located in the Pyrenees, this ancient Chantry was once home to House Flambeau of the Order of Hermes. Even now, certain Tremere of Flambeau lineage work there to perfect our magical mastery of fire.

Vienna: The Council of Seven meets at the Chantry of Vienna, the greatest of all Tremere Chantries, and the seat of our strength. Vienna falls under the jurisdiction of Councilor Etrius, and it is said that Tremere himself dwells therein.

Gargoyles: No such creatures exist. While the Clan has had some success in the crafting of animate simulacra, we have not shaped new bloodlines from Kindred flesh and vitae. Rumors of this sort should neither be confirmed nor denied.

Salubri: An extinct bloodline of infernalists and practicioners of diablerie. The Clan uncovered their schemes many centuries ago, and acted in concert to purge the world of their taint. This brought about some friction between the Clan and those Kindred who had fallen under the sway of the Salubri, but with the revelation of the nature of Salubri activities and the destruction of their bloodline, such awkwardness has faded with time, except in the minds of a handful of misguided elders.

Tremere antitribu: Followers of the renegade Councilor Goratrix, these Tremere went over to the Sabbat many years ago. They are few in number, and have been branded by the Council of Seven such that we may recognize their identities on sight. As a rule, their sorcerous skills are inferior to our own. These renegades are to be left alone unless they directly interfere with Clan or Camarilla business.
