GIANTS IN THE EARTH

TRIBUNALS OF THE ORDER

Tribunal Aquitaniae (Aquitaine)

The Aquitaine Tribunal has only recently been partitioned out of the Normandy and Provençal Tribunals, and as such has little Hermetic clout. However, its influence over noteworthy French cities and lords gives it some pull within the mundane sphere. Even more so than the Provençal Tribunal, House Jerbiton dominates the Aquitaine.

Covenants:

Tribunal Asiaticum (Novgorod)

This is the largest and most thinly populated of all the Tribunals. Magi here have something of a frontier mentality, and with the vast distances between these Covenants and the core of the Order, these magi have little to no controls upon their activities.

Covenants:

Tribunal Brittaniae (Stonehenge)

Despite the presence of its Domus Magna and its large local population, House Ex Miscellanea does not dominate the Stonehenge Tribunal. It is primarily the magi of Houses Tremere and Jerbiton who struggle to control Britain's magical and mundane resources. Magi of most other houses can also be found in the Stonehenge Tribunal, particularly of House Ex Miscellanea and House Merinita, but they generally prefer to keep a low profile.

Covenants:

Tribunal Carpathiae (Transylvanian)

House Tremere controls the Transylvanian Tribunal with an iron fist. A few other magi can be found in these wild lands, but they remain only by Tremere sufferance.

Covenants:

Tribunal Carthaginis (Carthaginian)

A few Covenants eke out their existence in these bleak and desolate lands. The magi of the Carthaginian Tribunal have little Hermetic clout, though the wealth of the African continent allows them some access to mundane power and resources. The threat of conflict with mysterious Moslem wizards deters all but the most adventurous and independent-minded magi from exploring these lands.

Covenants:

Tribunal Germaniae (Rhine)

Heartland of the Order, the Rhine Tribunal is home to the Domus Magnae of three Houses: Bonisagus, Jerbiton and Merinita. Durenmar, the Domus Magna of House Bonisagus, hosts the Grand Tribunal of the Order of Hermes every thirty-three years. No other Tribunal, with the possible exception of the Roman Tribunal, has the political clout of the Rhine, and none can match its prestige.

Covenants:

Tribunal Hiberniae (Hibernia)

Large numbers of Merinita and Ex Miscellanea magi call this Tribunal home. The Hibernian Tribunal has little power in Hermetic and mundane politics, and its inhabitants show little interest in changing this state of affairs.

Covenants:

Tribunal Hispaniae (Iberia)

Iberia is a hotbed of Hermetic politics. The conflict between the Roman and Reconquista factions rages on, and no magus in the Tribunal is immune. While the Domus Magna of House Flambeau stands in Provence, the heart and soul of the House reside here.

Covenants:

Tribunal Illyriae (Thebes)

This Tribunal is home to many ancient esoteric magical traditions, whose practitioners are often at odds with the Latin techniques of the rest of the Order. Politically, the Tribunal is sharply divided between the classically-minded Hellenistic magi of Greece and the politically-minded magi of Constantinople.

Covenants:

Tribunal Lugduniensis (Normandy)

Few magi intrude upon the Tytalus-controlled Covenants of Normandy, for while the Tytali themselves are quite amenable to strangers, most have cause to doubt the sincerity of their hospitality. Most other magi to be found here are as manipulative, combative and contentious as the Tytali themselves.

Covenants:

Tribunal Narboniensis (Provençal)

Often considered the cultural heart of the Order, the Provençal Tribunal has long been beloved of House Jerbiton. It is also the ancestral home of House Flambeau. However, the intensifying struggle between these two Houses in recent years has vitiated their strength here; with the splitting off of the Aquitaine Tribunal and the loss of many bright young Flambeau to the Iberian Tribunal, the the Provençal Tribunal has dwindled to a shell of its former self.

Covenants:

Tribunal Raetiae (Greater Alps)

This ancestral home of House Criamon is a magnet for elder magi of all Houses, and it is most certainly the most hidebound of the Tribunals. No new Covenant has been established here for over a century, and most of those that remain are locked in the grip of Winter.

Covenants:

Tribunal Romae (Roman)

Home to the Domus Magnae of Guernicus, Mercere and Verditius, the Roman Tribunal is the wealthiest and, perhaps, the most powerful of all the Tribunals of the Order. Unfortunately, much of its wealth and power are consumed in internal squabbles between Covenants and factions.

Covenants:

Tribunal Sarmatiae (Bohemia)

Despite its proximity to the Order's centers of power, the Bohemian Tribunal remains thinly populated and politically weak. This may be due to the local strength of House Bjornaer, which has little use for magi of other Houses and persuasions.

Covenants:

Tribunal Scotiae (Loch Leglean)

Many wizards of House Ex Miscellanea make their home in this distant Tribunal, away from Hermetic politics and strictures. The Order pays little attention to their activities, preferring to leave these hedge wizards to their own devices.

Covenants:

Tribunal Syriae (Levant)

In recent years, the Levant Tribunal has become another wellspring of conflict between the Roman and Reconquista factions. The presence of aggressive Moslem wizards makes this a particularly dangerous place for Hermetic magi.
