Magi should generally split both Virtues and Flaws evenly between the Hermetic and General categories.
Companion characters will be shared among the troupe, much like grogs, for those scenarios in which some of the magi are not present. Thus, design your companion to operate in situations opposite to those favored by your magus.
It's hard to get all the abilities that one's starting magus should have using the limited experience points available during character creation. Therefore, the Storyguide will be assigning additional points during character creation, at his discretion.
In accordance with the Law of Names, a character's name should be bound up with his or her nature and destiny. Most magi receive names with some inherent meaning, whether it is a Latin word or the name of a figure from Greek or Norse mythology.
Players may take on additional contributions; each contribution gives the player an additional Virtue Point during character creation, and additional Virtue Points and/or experience points at the end of each chapter. Acceptable contributions include:
Character Names
When an apprentice passes his gauntlet, he receives a new name from his master. This new, "hermetic" name is almost invariably different from the old, "vulgar" name. In a sense, it represents the death of the apprentice's mundane life and his rebirth into the Order of Hermes. While some masters may allow their apprentices some input into their new name, the choice ultimately lies with the master.
Character Contributions
We ask each player to provide a brief synopsis of their character's activities for each session. This doesn't have to be much, just a couple of paragraphs in the character's voice. This is to help our Storyguide, who has a mind like a sieve, to remember each session's events.
